Caframo EcoFan 802 Review

The Ecofan can add as much as 3 to 4 degrees to the temperature of a room. Here's my review..

If there's one thing you should invest in for your wood stove, it’s a wood stove fan. And the good news is, there’s one particular stove fan on the market that will meet your needs perfectly.

Introducing the Ecofan! The reason I am reviewing this particular fan is because there isn’t another type of fan like it on the market, probably due to its patent technology. Also because I happen to own 2 of them and I simply love them!

Ecofan Airplus 802

The eco fan is made by a Canadian company called Caframo Ltd. who has been making stove fans and similar products for over 10 years.

The fan is a free-standing product that sits on top of your stove. It incorporates thermal electric technology which basically means the heat from the stove heats the base of the fan and keeps the top cool. This concentration of heat generates its own electricity, powering the fan blades and circulating the warm air produced by the wood burner into your room. For the more inquisitively minded, it is also known as a sterling engine.

Here are some of the features and benefits of the Ecofan 802:

Features:

-    Needs a surface temperature of between 150 to 650 degrees Fahrenheit.
-    Fan body is constructed of anodized extruded aluminum and blades are anodized brass color
-    Made to sit on the top of freestanding wood-burning stoves: heat stoves, wood stoves, pellet stoves, wood cook stoves.

Benefits:

-    It doesn’t require any external power source or batteries. Runs solely on the electricity it generates from the hot stove.
-    Environmentally friendly.
-    Works silently with little to zero maintenance.
-    Free standing and cordless.
-    Set and forget. Starts automatically as soon as it hits the required temperature. No turning on or off.
-    3 blades instead of 2 which circulates up to 50% more air.
-    An environmentally friendly product.
-    Beautifully styled and looks just great on top of your stove.

Having my Ecofan running as opposed to not having one means the difference in temperature in my living room is as much as 3 to 4 degrees warmer during the winter. This is a massive difference and also means I use less wood.

The fan’s speed acts as a nice little visual indicator as to whether I need to add more wood to the burner. As soon as I notice the fan slowing down slightly, I know I’ll soon need to add some more logs.

When positioning the fan you’ll probably need to experiment as to the best place for it. I have mine away from the front of the stove and chimney flue. And it works at its maximum efficiency. You’ll discover the best position by sighting it in various places.

Conclusion

The ECOFAN is a fantastic but simple innovation that does the job of circulating the warm air around your home perfectly. It is a great stove accessory - a 'green' product that saves on energy use and cuts heating bills.

If there were any cons to this product it would be the price. Caframo fans are not that cheap at over $100.. but worth the money all the same! This is one item that you must get and you won’t be disappointed with the results.

If you have an Ecofan, whether it is the 2 bladed ecofan 800 or the 3 blade ecofan 802, I would love to hear your comments.
