Room to Room Fan
A room to room fan is an ideal way to gain maximum benefit from the warm air produced from your wood stove, and the perfect complement to your wood stove fan.
If you already have a wood burning stove then you know how cozy and economical they are to run, especially during the cold winter months.
Wood stoves are easy to maintain and emit a lot of heat into the surrounding room. The first item I suggest anyone buys to make use of all this heat is a wood stove fan - in particular the Eco Fan.
The heat is distributed throughout the room with minimal fuss and efficiency. But because heat rises, much of this heat is still lost through the ceiling.
Installing a room to room fan at the top of the door is a great way to maximise the majority of this lost heat and send it into an adjoining room.
If you're thinking of buying a room to room fan, you won't be disappointed, as long as you get the right one. I've tested 3 door fans and the Achla Minuteman Room to Room Doorway Fan has worked the best by far.
Here's a quick review if your interested in getting the same one:
Achla Designs Room-to-Room Minuteman Doorway Fan
There are a few room to room fans or doorway fans to choose from and they all try to do the same thing - send hot air into the next room or hallway ect.
Unfortunately some of the fans are too lightweight and made of cheap plastic. They don't last as long and are not as efficient.
Although the Achla Fan is also made of plastic, it is coated in graphite powder and looks and feels a lot more sturdy.
It is an amazingly quite fan and rotates at 1100 revs per minute. It looks pretty cool too, which is an added bonus!
Here is the fan's main features:
- Life-long lubricated motor for continuous use and maintenance free.
- Easily reversible to change airflow direction.
- Eleven feet of cord included, with on/off switch.
- Single speed, 55 CFM (1100 RPM).
- Fan size at widest points: 4.75'' H x 4.75'' W x 1.75'' D.
- Strong, graphite powder coated frame with mounting brackets included.
You can buy this door to door fan, cheapest on Amazon through this link
Pros:
Well designed and built from a reputable company.
Extremely quiet, whilst effectively distributing large quantities of warm air.
Cons:
Slightly more expensive than other models, but is far superior and designed to last many years.
Who is the fan for?
Like any door to door fan, the Achla model is perfect for energy conscious users who want to gain maximum benefit from the heat emitted from their wood stove or similar heat source.
Conclusion
If you have a wood stove, fireplace or something similar, which heats one room, this whisper quiet, door to door fan will circulate warm air into adjoining rooms otherwise lost through the ceiling or roof. The Achla model is currently the market leader and worth the extra few dollars.
I have installed 2 of them in my home which warms my kitchen and separate dinning room. They work just great and importantly they use hardly any electricity to power them. Mine are running almost 24/7.
Here is a review by a recent purchaser:
Great Little Fan! by Dave
| "Pleasantly surprised by the small size and how super quiet this fan is. We have it positioned at the top of out main living room and use it to send warm air from our wood stove to other areas of the house. It does a great job of sucking in the warm air circulating at ceiling height and pushing it through to other parts of the home.
Works much better than previously trying to use a large, free-standing fan; which was very noisy, got in the way and didn't do a very good job. The unit comes almost fully assembled and it only took a few minutes to mount it on the door frame. Will be getting another one very soon." |
